My name is Zeke Aszman. I’m an artist from Portland, OR.
The world I like to build in my paintings is a science fiction future where humanity is humble and earthy. Private dramas unfold simultaneously with no hierarchy of importance between the characters- humans, animals, and inanimate objects alike. These paintings show the pageantry, the weddings, funerals and other more obscure ceremonies that we do to honor our joy and agony. You’ll find a romance between a man and a car, a druid scientist coaxing electricity out of a rock, and deer passing by silently as someone crouches down to sift sand through their fingers. Science, spirituality, and romance come together here in paintings that are like diagrams or hieroglyphics. Maybe they wish to communicate some kind of instructions. Or maybe these are just the features that make up a pretty landscape.
